Our next Book Club selection is Secrets of the Sprakkar: Iceland’s Extraordinary Women and How They Are Changing the World. The book provides a view into more gender-equal ways of doing things and what our world might look like with gender equality as a core value. Written by Eliza Reid, the wife of Iceland’s prime minister, the book interviews women active in a range of fields. Should be just great!

What the Toast celebrates:

On August 26, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was signed in Washington D.C., giving American women the right to vote. A few days before, the legislature of Tennessee voted in favor of the amendment, securing the required 36th state for ratification. Large numbers of suffragists (known as Suffs) and opposing Antis had converged on the state Capitol to lobby the legislators. In the end, the amendment passed in the Tennessee House of Representatives by one vote.
