 What the Toast celebrates:
 On
  August 26\, 1920\, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was signed in W
 ashington D.C.\, giving American women the right to vote. A few days befor
 e\, the legislature of Tennessee voted in favor of the amendment\, securin
 g the required 36th state for ratification. Large numbers of suffragists (
 known as Suffs) and opposing Antis had converged on the state Capitol to l
 obby the legislators. In the end\, the amendment passed in the Tennessee H
 ouse of Representatives by one vote.
