Shedding Light on a Potential Radnor Ordinance

We are no longer accepting registrations for this event

Whether it’s illumination from facilities at local colleges, a gas station in Wayne, or a health facility off King of Prussia Road, residents are increasingly aware that there may be an increasing glow in the night sky. How does light impact your health? What kind of lighting is needed to protect pedestrians or athletes after dark? What are current technologies that address the lighting needs of both residents and developers? How have other communities addressed these issues?

This event will feature a panel of three speakers who will address practical considerations, the science of impacts from nocturnal lighting, good practices in outdoor lighting, and municipal ordinances in the region. The speakers for this event include:

• Marilou Smith, representing the facilities department of Villanova University, who will speak about the needs and considerations underlying lighting decisions.

• Donald McEachron, Professor at Drexel University, who will share his expertise in circadian rhythms and biological responses to light.

• Stan Stubbe, representing the Pennsylvania Outdoor Lighting Council, and an expert on municipal ordinances addressing outdoor lighting, who will address good practices in outdoor lighting and options for implementing a municipal ordinance.

There will also be an opportunity for questions and answers submitted by the audience after the speakers have completed their presentations.
