THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS

OF RADNOR TOWNSHIP

Positions held by the LWV

The League is a non-partisan political organization which supports neither parties nor candidates but does support issues after study and consensus.  Actions to influence public policy include educational efforts, advocacy and active participation.

The objectives of the League are achieved by monitoring specific local, state and national issues through committees organized for that purpose.  They include:

*         Legislative Action:   The national League’s Grassroots Lobby Corps takes action on legislation such as campaign finance reform, paying the UN debt, environmental issues.  League members write letters to public officials and otherwise present the League’s position.  Interviews are held with local elected representatives to obtain first-hand information about issues of concern, and to inform the officials of the League’s positions.

*         Voters Guide:  Information about local, state and national candidates is prepared and presented for publication in local newspapers as a guide for voters on election day.

*         Voters Service:  Voter registration drives are held each year and debates are conducted between candidates for local office in Radnor and Delaware County.

*         Education:  Forums are held, topics studied and action taken on education matters which involve the interests of local children and citizens in Radnor.

*         Publications:  An annual Government Directory is prepared and distributed listing local officials and providing information about Township committees and boards and federal and state officeholders.

*         Natural Resources:   The League fosters study and action on the acquisition and improvement of public property in Radnor Township.  The League has advocated for the P&W Trail, open space bond issues and hazardous waste collection days.

*         Observer Corps:  Members monitor public meetings of Township boards to ensure compliance with the Sunshine Law and public input.  The League monitors actions of local officials to ensure good government processes.

*         Social Policy:  Members study areas of concern such as welfare reform, immigration laws, health care issues.  Positions taken as a result of consensus provide the basis for proposed changes or support by the League.
